Joanne Helen High – South Glengarry

If elected, would you make climate action a priority, and if so, how would you ensure that state-of-the art-energy reduction methods are included in the assessment of all municipal activities, spending and investments – both capital and on-going management?
  • The climate is certainly a concern, especially with the strong sun we experience now and the varying weather in the last 10 years. Currently I am not really educated enough on what is currently available except for solar panels. I would need to understand what options are feasible to make a solid statement.
Do you think your main street/downtown is successful – why or why not?  If elected, what specific actions, changes and improvements would you make to ensure a healthy and successful downtown/main street?
  • In South Glengarry, the recycling program is already strong and residents are highly encouraged to do what they can. We can always do better!!!!!
If elected, how would you go about ensuring the replacement of tree cover lost in your municipality as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer?
  • Yes ,I would especially on private land. I’m sure the conservation authority would be a valuable resource to replace them with maple, oak and trees that are not affected by the Emerald Ash Borer. Most land owners would be open to planting something to replace the Ash. Free young trees are always appreciated.
If elected, what waste management initiatives would you support toward increasing waste diversion and what targets would you like to set for your municipality?
  • I think an educational program for Residents would be most beneficial. I believe that we all need to protect our natural resources, especially water. Many people take clean water for granted. People tend to take things for granted unless there is a problem. MORE EDUCATION & INCENTIVES!!!!!
