Donna Primeau – South Stormont

If elected, would you make climate action a priority, and if so, how would you ensure that state-of-the art-energy reduction methods are included in the assessment of all municipal activities, spending and investments – both capital and on-going management?
  • There are many challenges facing municipalities and climate action is certainly one of them. I am always looking at the big picture when making decisions and how our decisions affects a number of things, including climate change, if re-elected I will continue to do so.
Do you think your main street/downtown is successful – why or why not?  If elected, what specific actions, changes and improvements would you make to ensure a healthy and successful downtown/main street?
  • I believe our Township is challenged when it comes to ‘main street/downtown’ because we don’t have a typical main street. We have clusters of businesses located throughout our Township which is a challenge on all its own. We have made strides to improve our main business areas and would like to see continued investment by owners and the municipality. There is room for continued improvement in our core business areas but we are on the right track.
If elected, how would you go about ensuring the replacement of tree cover lost in your municipality as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer?
  • Tree cover preservation is crucial with or without the Emerald Ash Borer. I believe a conscious effort to evaluating every situation as far as tree cover needs to take place, from the loss due to Emerald Ash Borer to the development of a new subdivision, tree coverage needs to be addressed like roads and water systems. Every opportunity to plant more trees should also be taken advantage of.
If elected, what waste management initiatives would you support toward increasing waste diversion and what targets would you like to set for your municipality?
  • I would like to see more residents recycling and composting. Knowledge is key to these two initiatives being successful. Residents may have the tools they need to recycle and compost but we need the arm them with the knowledge of how and why to recycle and compost.
