Carrie Curry – North Stormont

If elected, would you make climate action a priority, and if so, how would you ensure that state-of-the art-energy reduction methods are included in the assessment of all municipal activities, spending and investments – both capital and on-going management?
  • I feel as we are a rural area climate is a very important topic that needs to be considered at all levels of government. I feel as a we need to ensure this is reviewed for all items that we need to address and actions we implement.
Do you think your main street/downtown is successful – why or why not?  If elected, what specific actions, changes and improvements would you make to ensure a healthy and successful downtown/main street?
  • I feel the downtown of Avonmore, where I live is becoming more vibrant and is slowly reintroducing more small business. I feel the grants for the business in our area to do repairs and improvements are a good start but more funding and tax breaks are needed to draw more business to our rural home towns.
If elected, how would you go about ensuring the replacement of tree cover lost in your municipality as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer?
  • I think this is a great project for our local community partners to pair with the municipality. I would like to see the council provide funds for the purchase of the tree and local school, scouts, 4H and volunteer groups help to get the trees planted. I would help facilitate the program if elected.
If elected, what waste management initiatives would you support toward increasing waste diversion and what targets would you like to set for your municipality?
  • I feel we are a community that does very well in waste diversion although we need to increase the household participation in composting and reducing recycling materials going into the dump. I would support a education campaign in schools and in our local recreation committees to have a push to back to green mentalities and grass root work to see children learning and teaching the family.
