Season of need at Cornwall’s Agape Centre

agapeMost of the time when we think about local families in need, it’s around the Christmas holidays.

And it’s true, that is a time when we should help local families. But poverty doesn’t only happen around the holidays. It’s a year-round fight for some local families, and especially in the summer.

“I think it is a bit more prevalent in the summer, although you might not think that,” said Johanne Gauthier, Athe gape Centre’s operations manager and interim executive director. “It’s not in the donor’s mindset.”

“I feel there is more of a need for the kids in the summer,” she said. “We see more kids in the soup kitchen, there is a bigger demand for snacks for kids and thing like that. As well as fresh fruits and vegetables.”
