Is Sustainable Agriculture an Oxymoron?

Toby Hemenway, author of Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture, thinks sustainable agriculture is an oxymoron.  In an article posted on his blog, he makes the case for growing the food humans need as horticulturalists do. He writes, “Simply put, horticulturists are gardeners rather than farmers.”
